All our meat products (excepting eggs and skincare) may be sent out fresh or frozen, and this varies for each product on a daily basis .  Whether a product is sent out fresh or frozen will depend on the stock situation on the date of shipment and on the shelf life of the individual  product. Mixed boxes may consist of both fresh and frozen items.  In mixed boxes fresh items are sent in a bag marked 'fresh items' and frozen items are sent in a bag marked 'frozen items' .

If you do not want this item as a frozen product please put it into your basket as usual but put a note in the 'NOTES TO VENDOR' box on the checkout - just say 'NO FROZEN PRODUCTS PLEASE'.  When we prepare your order we will leave out any items which are only in stock as frozen items on the day your order is shipped or collected and we will refund you for the items which we cannot supply as fresh items on that day.

(Please note our FREE DELIVERY TO NORTHERN IRELAND AND REPUBLIC OF IRELAND OFFER only applies if the order shipped is over £100 so if removal of frozen items from the order reduces the value of your order below £100 we will not be able to deliver your order free of charge.)

Storing meat and poultry

Open tab

Your order may contain both fresh and frozen items.  Both fresh and frozen meat will be delivered packed in gel ice, in an insulated box.

Frozen items are marked with a ‘Best Before’ date of 365 days from the date of packing. Please ensure you put frozen items in your freezer immediately your package is delivered, and store them frozen until you are ready to cook them. Once thawed or defrosted previously frozen items have a ‘Use By’ date of 12 hours and must be cooked within 12 hours. Do not leave previously frozen items in a refrigerator for several days after thawing – they will not be safe to eat and should be discarded. Previously frozen items can be cooked and then refrozen for example, frozen mince can be defrosted, cooked and then frozen as e.g. Shepherds’ Pie or Bolognese Sauce.

Fresh items are marked with a ‘Use By’ date of several days (the length of which varies depending on the type of product – minced items with no preservative have a 2 day shelf life, fresh chicken has a 3 day shelf life, sausages or burgers containing preservatives have a 5 day shelf life in an unopened vacuum pack, beef steaks have a 14 day shelf life in an unopened vacuum pack, bacon has a 14 day shelf life in an unopened vacuum pack, but 4 days shelf life only once the pack is open).  Fresh meat and poultry should be stored in a refrigerator set to the lowest setting (2 degrees Centigrade) and should be cooked before the ‘Use By’ date on the pack. Once cooked fresh items can be frozen and stored in a freezer.  All fresh items can also be frozen at home if they are put in your freezer immediately your package is delivered.

Product weights

Weight of meat cuts & poultry

We cut  meat as accurately as possible, but as this is a natural product the weight of the product supplied may vary slightly from the weight ordered. It is impossible for the butcher to be absolutely precise when cutting meat to size and poultry weights vary slightly from week to week depending on the exact age of the birds when killed.  Customers who have paid in advance online will not have to pay more if they are delivered or collect a heavier product than than purchased, but we will not make a refund if a product is less than 10% lighter than that prepaid online

Customers who opt to pay on collection at the Farm Shop or at St George's Market Belfast will be charged the exact price for the item supplied as shown on the scale when they collect.

How much meat should I order?

Open tab

Here is a general guide  - based on average portions.

Turkey - allow approximately 1.5 lbs (675 g per person). For turkeys under 14 lb allow approximately 2 lb (900 g) per portion as the bone to meat ratio is higher for smaller birds.

Goose - allow 2 lbs (900 g) per portion. The biggest geese are only about 11-12 lbs (approx 5.5 kg) so if you need to feed more than 6 people you will need 2 geese.

Chicken (whole, on the bone) - allow 1 lb (450 g) per portion.

Duck - allow 1 lb (450 g) portion.

Pheasant - 1 pheasant feeds 2 people.

Guinea Fowl - 1 guinea fowl feeds 4 people.

Ham, raw. Order 8 oz (225 g) per portion. This will give you 4 oz (110 g) of cooked ham per portion. Ham loses approximately 1/3 to 1/2 its weight in the boiling process, so if you need 2 kg of cooked meat, you should order 4 kg of raw ham.

Meat on the bone (e.g. Rib Roast) - allow 1 lb (450 g) per portion.

Meat, boned (e.g. Rump roast/Topside Roast/Boned Pork Loin) - allow 8 ounces (225 g) per portion.

Meat boned for casserole (e.g. venison casserole pieces) allow 4 oz (110 g) for a casserole with equal vegetable ingredients e.g. mushrooms, onions, carrots. If the casserole meat is just poached in wine, allow 8 oz (225 g) per portion.

How we deliver to Northern Ireland & Great Britain

We use Parcelforce 24 hour delivery service. Your order will be packed in an insulated box with ice, which will keep the meat refrigerated until it is delivered. Your order will be shipped from the farm by us and should be delivered by Parcelforce on the next day between 9 am and 5 pm. However in the Covid-19 emergency Parcelforce has suspended Service Guarantees but seek to maintain services where they can.  This means that although we pay for 24 hour next day delivery, Parcelforce may not be able to deliver on the next day and delivery may take 48 hours for some parcels.  However, in practice so far we have found that Parcelforce in Northern Ireland and Great Britain have managed to deliver all the parcels we have sent since the beginning of March within 24 hours.  We are packing all parcels with additional ice and insulation to ensure that the contents stay cold even if delivery takes longer than 24 hours.  Please ensure you unpack and refrigerate or freeze your meat order as soon as it is delivered.

How we deliver - Republic of Ireland

Delivery address information

Please note: we cannot book a courier delivery service for customers without a complete delivery address - recipients's name, house number, road, UK postcode or ROI Eircode, town, recipients email address and recipient's phone number, (mobile preferred).

When we deliver

We deliver nationwide to Northern Ireland and Great Britain Tuesday to Friday.   Please note we do not deliver on Bank Holidays or Public Holidays.

Delivery dates and delivery address

After you place an order we will send you a confirmation of order email showing the goods you have ordered. We will also send you a second email telling you on what date we plan to SHIP your order.  At this stage you can let us know if you wish to change your shipping date or your delivery address.  If we do not hear back from you we will ship your order to the delivery address which you put on your order and will send your order with Parcelforce on the SHIPPING DATE we have told you.  Your order will be sent by Parcelforce 24 hour service and will be delivered the DAY AFTER your shipping date.

Changing your delivery date or delivery address

You can change your delivery address or shipping date by emailing us or phoning us up to a deadline of 5 pm on the DAY BEFORE your scheduled shipping date.  After 5 pm on the day before your shipping date it is not possible to change your delivery address or shipping date.  Please note no changes to delivery address or delivery date can be made on the date of shipping - the parcels are collected from our farm early in the morning and  the delivery address or delivery date cannot be changed once they are scanned by the Parcelforce driver and taken away from the farm by Parcelforce.

Tracking your parcel

From the morning of the delivery date you can track the progress of your parcel on the Parcelforce website or you can download the Parcelforce tracking app My Parcel Live which allows you to see where your parcel is and how far away the driver is.

Someone must be at the delivery address to sign for your parcel

Unlike other couriers the Parcelforce driver is not allowed to leave your parcel at your door or at a gate - the driver must get a signature to leave a delivery so please ensure someone is at the delivery address to sign for your order OR IT WILL NOT BE DELIVERED and they will take it back to their depot.   Parcelforce delivers anytime between 9 am and 5 pm.

If you cannot be in at the delivery address you requested on your online order, please let us have an alternative delivery address where someone will be available to sign for your parcel anytime between 9 am and 5 pm (e.g. a work address).  The deadline for changing your delivery address is 5 pm on the day before your order is shipped.

Changes to Parcelforce delivery procedure in relation to signing for and receiving items

In order to protect both Parcelforce drivers and customers as much as possible, Parcelforce will not be handing over hand-held devices to customers to capture electronic signatures.  Parcelforce drivers will instead log the first and last name of the person accepting the item, then put 'XP1' in the signature field, and we will record the geolocation of the delivery.  This will apply to all deliveries that normally require a signature.

If recipients are unable to come to the door or are self-isolating, Parcelforce will post a customer contact card in the normal way, advising of other ways the recipient can arrange to get their item. For example, by getting a friend or family member (who is not resident with someone who is self-isolating) to collect the parcel from their local Parcelforce depot or Post Office branch, as specified on the card.  They will need to bring along the card we left and a form of ID in the name of the person the item is addressed to.  Examples of suitable ID are specified on the card.

Alternatively you can collect your order at our Farm Shop on  Friday or Saturday 2 pm to 9 pm. Please see Contactless Click and Collect
